The In-Mold Decorating Association's 2011 Awards Competition winners included two parts for laundry appliances.
Among the winners in the Fifth Annual IMDA Awards Competition were two laundry appliance control panels, both submitted by Serigraph Inc.
Best IMD Durable Product. The award for the Best IMD Durable Product was for a Washer Dryer Control Panel, submitted by and molded by Serigraph. The part was lauded for its combination of durability, functionality, and versatility. Chemical-resistant polyester film was second surface printed and encapsulated using IMD for a robust construction to meets tough performance standards. The 85-degree bend across the top of the panel was created in the molding process, eliminating the added cost of a secondary forming operation. Interchangeable buttons in the mold tool enabled multiple button/feature set combinations for a variety of colored panels so an entire product line runs in one injection mold tool.
Best Injection Molded Part. The award for the Best Injection Molded Part was for a Laundry Control Panel submitted by Serigraph and molded by TH Plastics, Inc. The control panel design was noted for its precision printing, selective use of chrome, an in-mold formed badge, and in-mold embossed buttons capable of actuating over 100,000 times without failure. The control panel is used on three different washer and dryer platforms, each with a unique design. The versatility of the IMD process delivered individual button geometries, perimeter shape, graphics, and accents to differentiate one product line from another.
The 2011 IMDA Awards will be presented during the IMLCON & IMDCON 2011 International In-Mold Labeling & Decorating Conference & Exhibition, Nov. 16-17, 2011 in Phoenix.
