Slovenian appliance maker Gorenje (Velenje) became a 24% shareholder in the Energy Development Center (EDC), where it will develop and test co-generation devices for co-production of electrical and thermal energy, mostly from natural gas, with power from 5 to 500 kW. Expertise for equipment development will come from a consortium of experts. EDC development activities will also include photovoltaics, primarily developing solar power plant control systems. The center will also develop autonomous solar systems, tracking devices, and other systems for the operation of photovoltaic power plants.
The central goal of the EDC will be the building of a technological and economic platform that will bring new industry and jobs to the region.
The consortium of the newly founded EDC includes key companies from the Savinjsko-Šaleška region active in energy engineering, processing, and environmental technology, as well as public research institutions and private institutes.
