Consumer electronics manufacturer Foxconn plans to install one million robots in the next three years, according to a Xinhua report. The Chinese media outlet reported that Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou said the robots will increase efficiency and cut labor costs.
Foxconn, based in Taiwan, is widely considered to be the world's biggest manufacturer of consumer electronics through its Hon Hai Precision Industry Company. Hon Hai is estimated to have more than 1.2 million employee, mostly in China, and manufactures end products for Dell, Gateway, HP, and Apple, including iPad2s and iPhones.
Gou told Xinhua the company currently uses about 10,000 robots but intends to increase that number to 300,000 in 2012 and to a million in the next three years.
