With an electricity shortage looming in Japan, appliance maker Toshiba Corp. hopes to cut electricity use by revising the summer vacation schedules at its Tokyo headquarters and other locations served by Tokyo Electric Power Company. Toshiba has already shifted production schedules at its plants in Japan as a way to reduce power consumption and hopes to reduce its overall power use beyond the Japanese government’s 15% reduction target.
Toshiba submitted the revised vacation schedule to its labor union as a prelude to the start of discussions. It hopes to have the schedule approved by mid-June.
