Composite leading indicators (CLIs) are pointing to some divergence in the pace of economic activity across major economies according to the OECD.

Compared to the previous month's report, the CLI report released in May 2011 shows:
• a slower or stable pace of expansion in most EU countries
• continued expansion in North America, China and Russia
• regained momentum in economic activity in Canada and China
• the pace of expansion in France and the United Kingdom will be stable, albeit slow
• CLIs for Italy, Brazil, and India are pointing to slowdowns in economic activity relative to trend

Because of the exceptional circumstances the country is facing, it is not possible to provide reliable estimates of the CLI for Japan at this stage.

OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) composite leading indicators (CLIs) are designed to anticipate turning points in economic activity.

OECD-Total covers these countries:
• Australia
• Austria
• Belgium
• Canada
• Chile
• Czech Republic
• Denmark
• Estonia
• Finland
• France
• Germany
• Greece
• Hungary
• Iceland
• Ireland
• Israel
• Italy
• Japan
• Korea
• Luxembourg
• Mexico
• Netherlands
• New Zealand
• Norway
• Poland
• Portugal
• Slovak Republic
• Slovenia
• Spain
• Sweden
• Switzerland
• Turkey
• United Kingdom
• United States
