Globally, EUR 668 billion (approx. US$951 billion) will be spent on consumer electronics worldwide in 2011, with Europe being the top region in terms of revenue, according to Jürgen Boyny, global director for consumer electronics at GfK Retail and Technology, speaking at a preview event for the 2011 IFA trade show.
Connectivity will thrive in 2011 and large sales will come from flat screen TVs and global sales of 3D TVs, expected to reach 12 million units. Boyny also called 2011 "the year of the Smartphone," and expects they will account for 16% of CE spending. Tablets sales will continue to grow to account for 3% of sales and PC/notebooks will account for 16% of sales.
