Kalamazoo Debuts Hybrid Grills at KBIS

Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet today introduced new models to its line of Hybrid Fire Grills, designed to be the only barbeques that cook with three different fuels - wood, charcoal, and gas – at once. The grills were introduced at the opening of the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show, which runs April 26-28, 2011, in Las Vegas.

Kalamazoo, maker of high-end outdoor kitchen appliances, designed the unique grills to provide wide cooking versatility and enabling users to use any outdoor cooking technique they with the fuel of their choice.

The OEM said cooking is now established in the United States as a "national sport" and the appreciation of sophisticated flavors has moved outdoors to the grill. The grill meets the needs of cooks who appreciate the subtleties that come from cooking with charcoal or wood, but also desire the convenience offered by gas burners.

The hybrid grills are designed with patented drawers, located above the gas burners and below the cooking surface, that enable the multiple fuel cooking techniques. The drawers can be left empty to cook with gas alone. They can also be loaded with charcoal or wood (which can be started with the gas burner, if desired).

The gas cooking system uses custom-cast, brass H-burners offering gas cooking temperatures from 250ºF to 800ºF. The grills’ burner configuration is engineered to provide bigger, more linear control zones, allowing the outdoor cook to tailor the heat to a specific section.

When using charcoal or wood fuels, cooking temperatures range from a low of 150ºF to a high of 1,200ºF.

The grills also have a one-of-a-kind ignition system that pairs a dedicated ignition burner with electronic hot surface ignition, said to create the most reliable ignition system. The ignition burner can be used alone for low-temperature smoking and barbecue.

The grills are made at the OEM's facility in Kalamazoo, MI, U.S. and will be available at retail for $9,900 in the summer of 2011.
