Sony Corp. (Tokyo) said it has now resumed partial or full operations at eight of the 10 manufacturing sites that were shut down by Japan's March 11 earthquake and tsunami and related power outages.

Partial or full operations resumed at:

• Sony Manufacturing Systems Corp., Kuki Plant, Saitama Prefecture, making surface mounting equipment
• Sony Chemical & Information Device Corp., Kanuma Plant, Tochigi Prefecture, maker of bonding materials and optics materials
• Sony Energy Devices Corp., Tochigi Plant, Tochigi Prefecture, maker of lithium ion secondary batteries
• Sony Chemical & Information Device Corp., Nakada Site and Toyosato Site at Tome Plant, Miyagi Prefecture, making optical devices and IC cards
• Sony DADC Japan Inc., Ibaraki Facility, Ibaraki Prefecture, making CDs and DVDs
• Sony Energy Devices Corp., making lithium ion secondary batteries, Koriyama Plant, Fukushima Prefecture
• Sony Shiroishi Semiconductor Inc., Miyagi Prefecture, making Semiconductor lasers

Sony said that Sony Chemical & Information Device Corp., Tagajyo Plant, Miyagi Prefecture, maker of magnetic tapes and Blu-ray discs, is currently undergoing cleaning and damage inspection.

The Sony Energy Devices Motomiya Plant, Fukushima Prefecture, is scheduled to gradually resume operations by the end of April 2011.

In March Sony manufacturing operation schedules at some manufacturing sites not damaged by the earthquake/tsunami were adjusted to accommodate planned power outages and the availability of raw materials and components.
