Home Healthcare and Personal Robotics were two categories that show the most promise for a growth surge in the next two years according to survey results published in the new report, Latest Trends in the North American Consumer Robotics Market. The report found Educational Robotics should also see significant growth.

The survey results were presented by Michael Siggins, publisher of Robotics Trends, at the InnoRobo Conference in Lyon, France last week. The findings result from an online survey of home technology enthusiasts covering a several consumer robotics segment:
• smart toys
• educational robotics/hobby kits
• hobbyist robotics
• home care/lawn care robotics
• home healthcare robotics
• personal robotics

As the population grays and baby boomers look for ways to live independently, "home healthcare robotics may be the killer app that will finally bring robotics into the home, not only in North America but throughout the world," Siggins said.

The most important attributes consumer will want from home robotics, the survey reports:
• they work as advertised
• they withstand wear and tear
• the cost is not prohibitive
