About two-thirds of U.S. homeowners plan to do some remodeling or refurbishing in 2011, and 10% of their spending will be on HVAC refurbishment or upgrades.
Some 64% of U.S. homeowners plan to invest in renovation projects in 2011, according to the latest American Express Spending & Saving Tracker, and nearly a third of those homeowners invest in green improvements.
The percentage of people planning to make home improvements is similar to 2010's 62% but the amount they are planning to spend is much less, down from $6,200 in 2010 to $3,400 in 2011. The tracker reports that homeowners’ confidence in the real estate market has increased compared to last year, but only 43% believe they would get the asking price for their home if it was on the market today.
32% of homeowners with home improvement plans said they’ll be looking to invest in green improvements in 2011. Many are choosing to spend on energy saving measures because of the long-term, cost-saving benefits (31%).
Energy efficient windows and doors top homeowner’s lists at 16%, followed by:
• insulation 12%
• roofing 11%
• heating/ventilation/cooling systems (10%)
