German CE Market Grows by 5.5 % in First 9 Months of 2010 Nov 23, 2010

The German market for consumer electronics grew 5.5% in the first nine months of 2010 compared to the first nine months of 2009, according to GfK Retail and Technology. The market's three tracked sectors all showed growth:
• consumer electronics grew 2.6%
• telecommunications (private users) grew 11.7%
• information technology (private users) grew 8.5%

The Gfk report said the FIFA world cup helped spur industry growth in the second quarter of 2010 and the high-profile IFA, a Berlin trade show for consumer electronics and appliances held in September, stimulated demand in the third quarter.

The data comes from CEMIX, the Consumer Electronics Market Index, which is a project of the Bundesverband Technik des Einzelhandels e.V. (BVT), GfK Retail and Technology GmbH, and the Gesellschaft für Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationseletronik (gfu).
