H-P Products of Louisville, OH, is promoting its central vacuum systems as ways for home builders to differentiate their models to consumers as well as a way for building to earn green building points.

H-P sells central vacuum systems under the Vacuflo brand name and, under license from Techtronic Industries Co., the Dirt Devil brand name. H-P said its unique accessories, such as Vroom, Hide-A-Hose, and Spot, can become focal points in a builder’s model home tour. The company said consumers tend to remember "the home with the hoses that pulled out of the wall, cabinet or from the garage ceiling."

Each of the features offers a retractable hose housed in a wall or cabinet, where it is out of site until needed:
• Vroom has a 24-foot retractable hose, intended for quick clean-ups in high traffic areas such as kitchen, baths, or garages.
• Hide-A-Hose stores up to 50 feet of hose and is designed for whole-house cleaning.
• Spot has a 10-foot hose ideal for repeated messes, like dryer lint, kitty litter, and pet hair.

GREEN POINTS
The U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED for Homes program awards one certification point for a home equipped with a central vacuum system vented to the outside. Central vacuums remove 100% of vacuumed dirt and dust from the home interior, said to reduce allergy sufferer discomfort by more than 60%.

In 1955, H-P Products, Inc., introduced Vacuflo as the first residential built-in central vacuum system with a patented True Cyclonic process requiring no bags or filters.
