Testing and certification organization CSA International received recognition by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Certification Body (CB) under the enhanced Energy Star program. The EPA recognition establishes CSA as an independent third-party eligible to certify products to the Energy Star requirements. As of Dec. 31, 2010, third party certification from an EPA recognized CB will be required by manufacturers that want the Energy Star label on their products.

CSA said will double its capacity to accommodate increased demand for energy efficiency qualification and verification services.

CSA can now qualify and verify that products meet Energy Star requirements by testing them in its EPA recognized laboratories, by witness or supervised testing at manufacturers' labs, or by verifying testing data from other EPA recognized third-party labs.

The EPA recognition covers a broad range of products, including: home appliances; heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment; consumer electronics; information technology; lighting; and commercial food service equipment.
