Emerson said net sales for 1Q ended Dec. 31, 2008 were US$5.4 billion, a decline of 2% from $5.5 billion reported in the same period last year. Earnings and earnings per share from continuing operations for 1Q were $458 million and $0.60 respectively, versus $519 million and $0.65 in the same period last year.
The company's Process Management division reported sales growth in the quarter of 8%. Global sales were strong, with underlying sales growth in the United States of 10% and international growth of 16%.
Industrial Automation sales declined 2% in the quarter, while Network Power achieved sales growth of 2% in the quarter.
Climate Technologies sales declined 10% in the quarter, while Appliance and Tools sales decreased 17% in the quarter.
