U.S. Durable Goods Manufacturers Showing Increased Profits in 2Q Sep 17, 2010

The U.S. Census Bureau's quarterly financial report "U.S. Manufacturing, Mining, and Wholesale Trade Corporations" for the second quarter of 2010 was released on Sept. 13.

The Census Bureau reported that durable goods manufacturers’ second quarter 2010 unadjusted after-tax profits totaled $65.4 billion, up $62.0 billion from the after-tax profits of $3.4 billion recorded in the second quarter of 2009. All durable goods industries reported increases for the quarter.

Compared to first quarter 2010 after-tax profits of $46.0 billion, second quarter 2010 after-tax profits, at $65.4 billion, were up $19.4 billion. All durable goods industries reported increases for the quarter, but Electrical Equipment, Appliances, and Components was among those reporting the largest increases - up $2.0 billion.
