New Home Appliance Turns Waste into Fuel

E-Fuel unveiled a home appliance, the E-Fuel MicroFusion Reactor, for turning household organic waste into ethanol fuel.

The device van be used to process cellulosic waste material. The company estimates that almost 1 billion tons of organic waste material is available in the U.S. alone for processing by the device into fuel, at little or no cost.

The device operates continually, and every 2 minutes the cellulosic material in the reactor chamber is completely processed and ready for fuel processing. The method of wood hydrolysis dissolves any wood or other cellulosic agricultural material in a manner that is residue free.

Waste output is reduced to sugar water and lignin powder, and the sugar water is fermented by the MicroFueler into ethanol. (The company said lignin is a valuable substance used in the pharmaceutical industry as an ingredient in cancer fighting drugs and for other uses.)

The reactor appliance is designed to eliminate the costs and complexities associated with commercial gasification, aerobic digesting, enzyme and acid pre-processing of cellulosic material typically used in the traditional ethanol fermentation processes.

"The MicroFusion Reactor is a major breakthrough in the world's quest to rid itself from fossil fuels," said E-Fuel CEO Tom Quinn. "What used to take the commercial industry days to accomplish can now be accomplished in minutes safely by ordinary consumers".

The reactor's can be combined with the company's GridBuster, the world's first wet ethanol powered generator, which was developed with a heat recovery feature.

Public demonstration of the reactor is planned for 90 days after closing of E-Fuel's Series A financing round, currently in the final stages.
