Community Action Kentucky (CAK) recently awarded a two-year contract to GE to provide the GE GeoSpring hybrid water heaters to those participating in the Kentucky Weatherization Assistance Program. CAK, funded using a $70 million award from the U.S. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), helps qualified applicants decrease their home’s operating cost through the Weatherization Assistance Program. CAK will purchase the water heaters through May 2012 for distribution to community action agencies statewide for the Weatherization Assistance Program.

The contract will also create or retain jobs for Kentuckians, since the GeoSpring hybrid water heaters are made in Louisville at GE Appliances and Lighting.

“This weatherization program, combined with tax rebates from the Recovery Act, is driving demand for energy-efficient appliances made right here at GE’s Appliance Park,” said Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth at an event this week intended to highlight the homeowner program.

GE plans to invest $600 million in the 2010-2014 time period to bring manufacturing back to its Louisville, KY Appliance Park, which was once the biggest appliance manufacturing campus in the world. ApplianceMagazine.com wrote about these projects in:
