Consumer electronics retailer RadioShack said revenue increased 4.7% to $1.01 billion in the quarter ending June 30, 2010. U.S. company-operated store sales increased 6.4%. U.S. kiosk sales declined 12%, the loss attributed to fewer locations and the closure of Sprint-branded kiosks. Comparable-store sales (comps) for company-operated stores and kiosks increased 6.7% over the prior period.
The retailer completed a pilot of wireless kiosk locations inside Target stores and plans to open kiosks in nearly all Target stores by mid-2011.
Year-to-date revenue increased 4.3% to $2.05 billion and comps for company-operated stores and kiosks increased 5.7%.
RadioShack's retail network includes 4,680 company-operated stores in the United States and Mexico, more than 550 wireless phone kiosks in the United States, and approximately 1,300 dealer outlets worldwide.
