Composite leading indicator (CLI) for the OECD area increased by 0.4 point in April 2010, indicating a slowing but continuing expansion in most OECD countries. The April CLI was slightly lower than the 0.5 point increase in March.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development said tentative signs of a potential peak appeared in Brazil and stronger evidence has emerged in France, Italy, and China. The CLIs for Japan, the United States, and Germany continue to indicate that the ongoing expansion in activity is likely to be maintained, but possibly at a slower pace.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) defines growth cycle phases of the CLI as follows:
• expansion (increase above 100)
• downturn (decrease above 100)
• slowdown (decrease below 100)
• recovery (increase below 100).

OECD-Total includes these 31 countries:

• Australia
• Austria
• Belgium
• Canada
• Chile
• Czech Republic
• Denmark
• Finland
• France
• Germany
• Greece
• Hungary
• Iceland
• Ireland
• Italy
• Japan
• Korea
• Luxembourg
• Mexico
• Netherlands
• New Zealand
• Norway
• Poland
• Portugal
• Slovak Republic
• Spain
• Sweden
• Switzerland
• Turkey
• United Kingdom
• United States
