Chinese OEM Midea said it will accept returns of its "purple clay" electric cooking appliance, according to Nanfang Daily, after a China Central Television report claimed the cookers were not manufactured using genuine purple clay.

Cookers made of genuine purple clay have gained some popularity in China because of the perceived health benefits arising from the clay's mineral content, which includes calcium, iron, zinc, and selenium.

The CCTV report claimed Midea advertised its cookers as made from genuine purple clay, but the material used was, in fact, ordinary clay with purple colorant added. The cookers had no quality problems and posed no danger to users, and the report said Midea had suspended those charged with the cookers' promotion.
