Microchip Technology Inc., supplier of microcontrollers and analog semiconductors, formed a strategic partnership with Google PowerMeter, making it the first Reference Implementation of the Google PowerMeter API for embedded developers.
The partnership is intended to give product designers a quick and easy way to enter the energy-conservation market by creating products for the measurement and monitoring of energy usage with Microchip’s Google PowerMeter Reference Implementation and through the supplier's 16- and 32-bit PIC microcontrollers, energy-measurement ICs, Ethernet controllers, and radios for ZigBee and embedded Wi-Fi wireless networking.
The free PowerMeter app lets consumers view their energy consumption from their iGoogle personalized homepage. Using information from energy-monitoring devices, the Google system helps consumers to save money and use less electricity.
