Stihl engineered its new MS 311 and MS 391 mid-range chain saws for the environmentally conscious homeowners. The units have the OEM's low-emission engine technology. The saws improve fuel efficiency up to 20% and reduce emissions up to 50% compared to previous models.

The company points to convenience benefits as well – better efficiency means longer run times on a tank of fuel and lower fuel costs. A pre-separation air filtration system means fewer filter changes and longer run times between filter maintenance.

The saws also 391 also feature a toolless fuel and oil cap with retainers, translucent fuel tank, and side access chain tensioner.
