AHRI Reaches Agreement with DOE on Energy Efficiency Data Jan 15, 2010

The Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has submitted, on behalf of its member companies, energy efficiency data to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for residential air-conditioners and heat pumps, residential furnaces and boilers, residential water heaters, and direct heating equipment.

In December, the DOE had issued notice that intended to require manufacturers report such data for every model they produce. A 30-day grace period was provided to allow compliance. AHRI staff worked with DOE staff on a mutually acceptable solution, and the Department agreed that AHRI can submit the data on behalf of the participants in AHRI’s certification program for federally covered products.

DOE also agreed that the current AHRI directory database listings in the association’s efficiency certification programs satisfy the DOE requirement to provide the certification reports for each product. AHRI will provide those reports for certification program participants that authorize AHRI to do so.
