The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) said that for the month of October 2009, U.S. steel mills shipped 6,097,000 net tons, a 5.3% increase from the 5,793,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, September 2009, and a 13.4% decrease from the 7,041,000 net tons shipped in October 2008.
A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 12.5%; hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip, up 8.8%; and cold rolled sheet, up 1.4%.
