It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Dana "Doc" Chase Jr., the man at the helm of APPLIANCE magazine for many years and a significant figure in the industry.

Dana Chase, Jr., 81, of Oak Brook, IL, passed away on Oct. 5, 2009. Born in Athens, OH to Dana and Jeanette Chase, Dana moved with his family to Elmhurst in 1932, graduating from York High School in 1946. After graduating from the University of Ohio in 1950, he honorably served in the Korean war as a Lt. in the Infantry, earning the Korean Service Metal with two Bronze Service Stars, a United Nations Service Medal, and a Combat Infantry Badge.

In 1961, he married Patricia Dunn, and they had four children together – Deidre (Clingen), Dana, Susan (Korin), and David. Dana loved spending time with his seven grandchildren – Brittany, Amanda, Shelby, Paige, Parker, Gillian, and Teddy – often taking them fishing or boating at their home in Florida.

An avid fisherman and golfer, Dana traveled to many exotic fishing destinations including Belize, Venezuela, Christmas Island, and Alaska. He also treasured the opportunity he had to play golf at St. Andrews in Scotland on a memorable vacation with his wife to the UK.

Dana was active in his local community, serving on the School Board, the Little League Board, the Civic Association Board, and President of his Home Owners Association Board.

He spent his entire professional career at the company his father started, Dana Chase Publications, Inc., building it into a global communications company, producing award winning magazines, websites, and market research. Dana was active in many professional organizations, serving on the Board of Directors for American Business Media. In 2003, he won the Lifetime Achievement Award of Excellence from the American Society of Business Publication Editors, and in 2006 he received the Chairman’s award from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers.

A man with great energy and integrity, he will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. Visitation on Friday, 3 to 8 pm at Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main Street, Downers Grove. Funeral mass on Saturday, 10 am at Notre Dame Church, 64 Norfolk, Clarendon Hills.
