GE Appliances said its new Hybrid Water Heater is Energy Star rated and can reduce home energy expenses up to 62%, saving as much as US$320 annually on energy bills.

By utilizing heat pump technology in combination with traditional electric elements, the water heater pulls heat from surrounding air and transfers it to the tank. GE says this process creates the same amount of hot water as a traditional water heater, but can reduce energy expenses up to 62%.

The water heater also uses the existing water and electrical connections and occupies a similar footprint as a traditional 50–gallon tank water heater.

It will be available in November.
