Western Europe PC Market Shows Flat Growth in 1Q 2009 May 7, 2009

PC shipments in Western Europe totaled 15.3 million units in 1Q 2009, a 0.7% increase from the same period in 2008, according to Gartner, Inc.

Of the leading Western European countries, the UK was the weakest, while France and Germany saw low single-digit growth.

PC shipments in the UK totaled 3 million units in 1Q 2009, a decline of 5.1% compared with the same period in 2008, according to Gartner. PC shipments in France totaled 2.5 million units, an increase of 3.2% compared with the same period in 2008. PC shipments in Germany totaled 3 million units, an increase of 4.5%.

Acer continued to grow with strong mini notebook shipments in retail, Gartner said, while HP maintained its leading position with 1.2% year-on-year growth.

Acer maintained its leadership and increased its share by 2.4 percentage points. Toshiba recorded the highest growth rate in the professional and consumer markets, Gartner said, while Dell was the worst performing vendor.
