Whirlpool said it was selected as a Centex Sustainability Partner by Centex Corp., one of the largest U.S. homebuilders.Centex will install Energy Star qualified Whirlpool and KitchenAid refrigerators, dishwashers, and laundry appliances in Centex Energy Advantage homes nationwide.

According to a study with the NAHB Research Center, the homes are up to 22% more efficient than comparable new homes built to the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. When compared to a typical 10-year-old home, as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy's Building America Program, the Centex Energy Advantage homes in the study were shown to be up to 40% more energy efficient.

Centex said that its Energy Advantage homes avoid the emission of 1.78 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, on average, compared to a typical new home. That's roughly the same as the greenhouse gas emissions from the family automobile over four months or the CO2 emissions from about 183 gallons of gasoline consumed.

Whirlpool will supply Duet Steam Washer and Dryers, KitchenAid and Whirlpool dishwashers, and Whirlpool brand electric ranges with a SteamClean option.
