LG Display began mass production at its 8G LCD plant in Paju, Korea. The 8G LCD line will primarily manufacture 32-, 47- and 55-inch TV panels from its 2,200x2,50mm glass substrates.
LG Display said it invested 2.54 trillion won (approx. US$73.47 billion) in the line, excluding the building cost. With initial monthly capacity of 20,000 substrates, LGD will adjust the ramp-up speed according to market circumstances and gradually increase monthly capacity to design capacity of 83,000 substrates by the end of this year.
The company said it expects to secure both productivity and profitability from the outset as the 8G LCD line was designed to remove wasteful factors, maximize investment efficiency and per capita productivity, and adopt multiple new technologies.
