Gorenje's net profit fell by 57% to €10.2 million (approx. US$13 million) last year, but sales were up 2.9% at €1.33 billion. "The fall in profit ... is the result of the severe impacts of the global financial and economic crisis," Gorenje said in a statement.
The company said the negative effects of the crisis seen at the end of 2008 will continue to affect its performance throughout this year. Gorenje expects to review the 2009 plans at the end of the first quarter as further measures will have to be taken to meet its forecast made in December.
