Haier opened its first air-conditioner plant in Prachin Buri as a production hub for Southeast Asia.

Qu Yoonkiang, co-managing director of Haier Electrical Appliance (Thailand) Co, the Thai subsidiary, said the 170- million-baht factory in Kabin Buri district is the seventh air-conditioner production base for Haier worldwide. It is also the company's third plant in Thailand after refrigerator and washing machine plants the past few years.

The factory has a capacity of 500,000 air-conditioners per year. Of the total, 30% will serve the local market and the remaining units are slated for Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. It will create 120 jobs.
