During 3Q 2008, ductless splits shipments in Canada showed the largest gain, increasing by 27%, according to the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI). Chiller bookings showed the second largest gain, increasing by 22%. Other sectors showed increases including commercial air-conditioning shipments by 3%, residential air-conditioning shipments by 1%. Residential furnace shipments decreased by 4% and unit heater shipments by 1% over the 3Q 2007.
According to HRAI,
• Commercial air-conditioning shipments increased 3%, from 11,923 in 3Q 2007 to 12,273 in 3Q 2008. Year-to-date shipments decreased 1%, from 32,275 for 3Q 2007 to 31,901 for 3Q 2008.
• Residential air-conditioning shipments increased 1% from 54,132 in 3Q 2007 to 54,847 in 3Q 2008. Year-to-date shipments increased by less than 1%, from 205,051 for 3Q 2007 to 205,134 for 3Q 2008.
• Residential furnace shipments decreased 4% from 97,027 in 3Q 2007 to 93,579 in 3Q 2008. Year-to-date shipments decreased 5%, from 217,671 for 3Q 2007 to 205,876 for 3Q 2008.
• Unit heater shipments decreased by 1% from 11,920 in 3Q 2007 to 11,834 in 3Q 2008. Year-to-date shipments increased 1%, from 27,719 for 3Q 2007 to 28,048 for 3Q 2008.
• Ductless Split Systems shipments increased by 27% from 6,483 in 3Q 2007 to 8,913 in 3Q 2008. Year-to-date shipments increased 10%, from 41,834 for 3Q 2007 to 46,711 for 3Q 2008.
• Chiller bookings increased 22% from 185 in 3Q 2007 to 225 in 3Q 2008. Year-to-date shipments increased 19%, from 586 for 3Q 2007 to 642 for 3Q 2008.
