GE formed General Displays & Technologies LLC (GDT), a joint venture with Tatung Company, that will design, market and service GE-branded HDTVs to deliver HD video, audio, and Internet. The first products will be available in Spring 2009.
GDT will also partner with NBC Universal (NBCU), a media and entertainment company, to develop an open platform capable of delivering Internet and other digital content directly through the television. This will enable consumers to view digital HD content from Web sites directly on their TV.
GE owns 49% of GDT, and as part of the agreement, will market GE-branded HDTVs globally.
