Desktop PCs will continue to be the growth engine of consumer electronics (CE) products in India, followed by digital cameras, DVD/VCD/DVR, and MP3 players, reports In-Stat. Easily available financing for CE could result in faster purchases, high-end purchases, or more purchases among Indians. Making products more affordable to the Indian consumer would have greater marginal utility, as price reductions could generate a voluminous demand.
In addition, In-Stat found that in terms of CE ownership, color TV, and DVD/VCD are predominant in Indian households; though the ownership of desktop PCs is low compared to color TV and DVDs/VCDs, the intention to purchase it was highest among respondents to an In-Stat survey of Indian consumers; and more than 53% of respondents were at least somewhat interested in a financing scheme for CE purchases.
