GE Appliances has shut down production, from Feb. 4 to 10, in three buildings at Appliance Park.

The shutdown will affect about 1800 hourly production workers, said Tommy Spires, president of International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine and Furniture Workers-Communication Workers of America Local 761.

The shutdown comes on the heels of GE's announcement last month that it will close its Bloomington, IN, refrigerator manufacturing plant by the fourth quarter of 2009. That plant employs 837 hourly workers and 59 salaried workers. (Business First Louisville)
