CEA Fights to Protect CES Trademark Jul 17, 2008

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the producer of the International CES®, is fighting a private company to protect the CES trademark. It issued the following statement in response to a federal court order protecting CEA’s intellectual property:

“CEA applauds the United States District Court of the Southern District of Florida for its ruling against Compras and Buys Magazine, Inc., and Justin M. Finocchiaro, granting a preliminary injunction against all infringements on the International CES trademark. The International CES trademark is one of CEA’s most valuable assets and we will aggressively defend our intellectual property.”

Under the terms of the injunction entered on July 3, the court found that CEA is likely to succeed on the merits of its claims for trademark infringements and that it is likely to suffer irreparable harm if the defendants' infringement is allowed to continue. The court ruled that the defendants must refrain from using the following trade names and service marks: Americas Consumer Electronics Show, Americas Consumer Electronics Showcase, Americas Consumer Electronics & IT Solutions Show, Americas ACES and ACES Americas and/or any other service mark, trademark, design element, trade name, corporate name or other commercial designation which is confusingly similar to the marks Consumer Electronics Show, CES, International Consumer Electronics Show, International CES and International CES & Design.
