2 Million Roombas
Robotic appliances have arrived, and leading this still-small industry segment is iRobot, maker of floor-care robot Roomba and floor-cleaning robot Scooba. iRobot experienced a milestone in May 2006 when Roomba sales surpassed 2 million units.

Two million units means this appliance is clearly not a passing fad. To help support more growth, the company promoted Gregory White, executive vice president and general manager of iRobot Home Robots, to president of Home Robots in July. White came from an appliance background, not background in robotics. Not long after his promotion, White and his team readied the launch of the robotic cleaner for garages and workshops.

Dirt Dog navigates on its own like Roomba, but is enhanced to suck up wood chips and metal shavings and other standard workshop litter.
