AARP Services, Inc. launched a Web site giving AARP members discount shopping. The site is being operated by Power Merchandising Corporation (PMC) and is called AARP MarketPlace.
The site is said to offer discount prices to AARP members and includes products such as small appliances, digital cameras and flat screen TVs.
“More of our members are shopping online.,” said Dawn Sweeney, president and CEO of AARP Services, a subsidiary that manages the products and services offered to AARP members. “This new, exciting website will provide them with a safe, friendly shopping environment.”
The site has the potential to be a significant retail presence if AARP, the association for people age 50 years and older, can convince even small percentage of its 37 million members to shop there.
