The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected Trane to find ways to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions at DOE sites across the U.S. The selection supports DOE's Transformational Energy Action Management (TEAM) initiative to reduce energy intensity across its nationwide complex by 30%.
The TEAM initiative aims to meet or exceed the aggressive goals for increasing energy efficiency throughout the federal government laid out by President Bush's Executive Order (EO#13423) announced in January. Reducing energy intensity by 30% across the DOE complex will save approximately US$90 million in taxpayer dollars per year, after projects are paid for.
Trane will expand its strong building systems presence at DOE sites across the U.S. by implementing energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs) at selected DOE sites as part of the TEAM initiative. ESPCs help the federal government create high-performance building environments by funding construction or much-needed building upgrades through energy savings.
