United Technologies Corp. said its 4Q 2008 profit rose 8%, helped by gains in aerospace and its expanding fire and security business that offset declines in its HVAC business. The parent company of Carrier Corp. earned US$1.15 billion in the three months ended Dec. 31, up from $1.06 billion a year ago. Revenue fell to $14.5 billion from $14.71 billion a year ago.
UTC said that Carrier's operating profit fell to $160 million from $259 million in 4Q 2007.
