The Haier Group announced plans to make Thailand its regional production hub for home appliances and some audio-visual items. Haier Electric (Thailand) Company said it will build Haier air-conditioners, wine cellars, and liquid crystal displays at its recently acquired factory in Kabin Buri. The company was previously considering Vietnam and Malaysia as its regional production hub.
Haier recently acquired Sanyo Universal Electric's refrigerator factory in Kabin Buri, Prachin Buri province, 130 km northeast of Bangkok. It will use the factory to branch out into production of a wider range of home appliances, targeting both the Thai and Southeast Asian markets.
