Philips Electronics Launches Consumer Website on Saving Energy Jul 6, 2007

Royal Philips Electronics has launched a website, asimpleswitch.com, to provide information to consumers on the simple actions that they can take to help reduce energy consumption without compromising on quality of life.

The site shows how buying green products can make a significant difference in energy consumption. For example, energy-efficient lighting products can save up to 40% on electricity, but also cost up to 80% less to run without compromising on quality. In addition, energy efficient consumer electronics products such as a number of Philips LCD FlatTVs use technologies that can reduce power consumption by up to 30% compared to competitive products of a similar screen size.

Earlier this year, Philips Consumer Electronics introduced a green logo for its environmentally friendly and safe consumer product range. The logo, also used on Philips' professional energy saving lighting solutions, allows consumers to easily identify products that have significantly better energy efficiency than the nearest competitor products in the same category as well as having other environmental benefits such as the use of flame retardant materials. Currently, seven of Philips' Flat TVs, carry the Green logo with a target of doubling the number to 14 by the end of 2007.
