GE Makes Push into Korea's Appliance Market Sep 26, 2006

GE is forming a sales agreement with GE Korea to introduce four GE brands, GE, RCA, Monogram, and Hot Point in the Korean market.

GE now has two agencies in Korea, White Consumer Electronics and GKA International, and aims to increase its share of the market, according to an IT Korea report.

The new agency will deal with GE products including refrigerators, fridges, washing machines, dry machines, microwave ovens and dishwashers. White Consumer Electronics has focused on sales of GE and Monogram refrigerators.

GKA International plans to aggressively market high-end refrigerators, including working with construction companies in the built-in market. It is also mulling over introducing 110V 50Hz products used in the U.S. market as a part of competitive price strategy instead of sticking with 220V 60Hz products.

"We plan to open 10 sales outlets in major cities across the country," said Jeong Yeon-guk, CEO of the company. "We will provide customer service for RCA and Hot Point products, which was earlier suspended after shutdown of Koram Electronics."

"We are confident about increasing presence in the market by offering tailored customer service and marketing policies," he added. "Now that 15 years have passed since the first import of consumer electronic products, we expect replacement demand to increase."
