Fireplace maker Hearth & Home Technologies was recognized by the American Lung Association with a National Partnership Award, presented September 16 at the American Lung Association’s national board meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.

The award honors Hearth & Home Technologies involvement in the American Lung Association Health House(R) program to promote clean indoor air. Through the Health House program, the fireplace maker helps raise awareness among builders and consumers about the air quality benefits of technologies such as direct vent gas and electric fireplaces.

“Hearth & Home Technologies shares our commitment and passion to providing a safer, healthier environment in the home,” said Harold Wimmer, president and CEO of the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest. “It’s a great pleasure to recognize the leader in the hearth industry for its efforts to improve indoor air quality.”

Hearth & Home Technologies, Inc., based in Lakeville, Minnesota, is credited with inventing direct vent gas technology in the mid-1980s, changing the industry by permitting safe gas fireplace installation virtually anywhere in the home. Unlike unvented or vent free gas fireplaces, direct vent gas models directly expel 100 percent of the fire’s combustion exhaust, moisture and odors outside the home. The company says indoor air quality does not have a chance to be polluted because a sealed glass front keeps potentially hazardous by-products such as carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide and excess moisture from entering the home.

“Our involvement with the Health House program allows us to reach out and educate more people than we could do on our own,” said Hearth & Home technologies President Brad Determan.

Health House is a national program of the American Lung Association developed to improve indoor air quality through its national demonstration homes, training programs for consumers and builders, and educational partnerships and alliances.
