Solar-Powered Phone Launched May 31, 2007

The world's first solar-powered mobile phone to reach consumers, from Hi-Tech Wealth (Henjiweiye S&T Co. Ltd.), in Beihai, Guangxi Province, went on sale in China this month.

The phone was announced at the CeBIT2007 trade show in Hannover, Germany, although productions models were apparently unavailable at the time. HTW claims to have beaten out big rivals, like Google and Mitsubishi, who have been unsuccessful in bringing the technology to market.

HTW's solar charging system includes eight of its own patented technologies to charge even in weak sun or candlelight.  It is designed to provide 20-25 min. of use after a 40-min. charge.
