Texas Instruments was ranked at the top of the latest IEEE 802.15.4 IC Vendor Matrix released by ABI Research. Ember Corporation and Oki Semiconductor claimed the second and third spots. The Vendor Matrix is an analytical tool developed by ABI Research to provide understanding of vendors' positions in specific markets, and the most recent report is an evaluation of worldwide IC vendors addressing the IEEE 802.15.4 short-range wireless market.

Vendors are assessed on parameters of "innovation" and "implementation" across several criteria unique to each vendor matrix. For this particular matrix, ABI examined whether the vendor had a system-on-chip product offering, the date of first product release, current product generation, transmit and receive power, receive sensitivity, and public/private status of the vendor.
