"Imagine a carpet that resists pet odors, a dishwasher that releases detergent automatically, or light bulbs that last 10 times longer," poses Bob Nardelli, president, chairman and CEO of global home improvement retailer The Home Depot(R). The company launched its first Home Show in more than 1,000 stores across the U.S. The retail displays are intended to showcase what the retailer considers to be its top innovative products via live demonstrations, in-store celebrity clinics, a virtual home tour, and online workshops. The focus is on new developments in many products and in categories like energy efficiency, home safety and decor.

"We challenged our suppliers, our stores and our product merchants to source the marketplace for the very best innovations in home improvement products, and we are proud to present to our customers what is perhaps the largest single concentration of cutting-edge solutions for their homes," said Nardelli.

Among the products being showcased:

  • An efficient washing machine: The LG(R) SteamWasher(TM), is highlighted for its higher energy efficiency and water conservation, as well as its 20-minute SteamFresh(TM) cycle to reduce wrinkles. Home Depot offers the unit in an exclusive color, Wild Cherry Red.
  • A dishwasher that stores and dispenses a bottle of liquid detergent:The GE(R) Profile SmartDispense(TM) Dishwasher is designed to help save consumers time in the kitchen with its ability to store up to 45 ounces of liquid detergent and automatically dispense the detergent as-needed.
  • Energy-saving lighting: n:vision(TM) CFL light bulbs are compact florescent bulbs designed to last 10 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs and to be four times more energy efficient. They are offered exclusively at the retail chain.
  • Air-cleaning carpet: The Puresque(TM) Carpet Collection by Beaulieu, also exclusive to Home Depot, uses technology said to capture odors and pollutants to help keep homes free of common household contaminants like smoke, pet and cooking odors.

    Customers can visit Home Show '06 September 7 - 24, 2006.
