Hitachi Sues LG for Patent Infringement Apr 25, 2007

Hitachi Plasma Patent Licensing Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (Tokyo), filed a patent infringement lawsuit against LG Electronics, Inc. of Seoul, Korea, and its subsidiary LG Electronics USA, Inc., in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

The complaint alleges that LGE's plasma display panel (PDP) products infringe seven patents owned by HPPL. Through the lawsuit, HPPL seeks compensation for money damages as well as a permanent injunction that would prohibit LGE from using the asserted patents and prohibit it from importing them into the U.S or selling them in the U.S.

HPPL said it discussed licensing terms with LGE under various PDP patents, including the patents in the infringement lawsuit, but the discussions reached an impasse.
