LG Gets Favorable Ruling in Whirlpool Patent Suit Aug 29, 2006

Whirlpool Corp.'s (WHR) patent infringement suit against LG Electronics Inc. was resolved without a jury trial after a federal judge granted LG's motion for summary judgment of invalidity in the action, according to a MarketWatch report.

The law firm of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, said the motion was granted Aug. 15 in U.S. District Court for Western Michigan. Previously, on July 18, the court granted LG's motion for summary judgment of no infringement.

The suit was brought in 2004 against LG Electronics for its Profile Harmony washing machine, and had been slated for a jury trial next month.

The attorneys said they plan to file a motion asking the court to order Whirlpool to pay LG's attorneys fees.

A Whirlpool representative wasn't immediately available for comment.
