Appliance maker Whirlpool selected Penske Logistics as its lead logistics provider (LLP), responsible for managing and evaluating regional supply chain operations to ensure maximum efficiency, optimal visibility and increased cost savings.
Penske also has expanded its existing contract with Whirlpool for operational inbound and outbound supply chain needs.
"Our business relationship with Whirlpool is one of Penske Logistics' longest-standing, and most successful engagements," said Ray Russell, senior vice president of Operations, Penske Logistics. "It is because of that relationship that we were able to quickly understand and evaluate Whirlpool's supply chain and propose solutions to improve efficiency and provide deeper supply chain visibility."
As Whirlpool's LLP, Penske will serve in a consultative role, overseeing and integrating all third-party logistics providers and will be responsible for managing supply chain functions, including routing, load tendering, freight payment and engineering, as well as lending support during the procurement process, ensuring provider capabilities, customer service, and supply chain metrics.
Expanding upon an existing contract for inbound and outbound services, the company will assume additional management and operational control over Whirlpool's private fleet and three regional distribution centers in Kent, Washington, U.S., Flower Mound, Texas, U.S. and Gouldsboro, Pennsylvania, U.S.
"Penske Logistics is playing a key role in the integration of Whirlpool and Maytag's distribution network," said Brian Hancock, vice president of Supply Chain, Whirlpool North America.
